An Overview of the Broiler Chick Production Industry in Iran

Written by Hamid Atharinejad

The production of broiler day-old chicks in Iran amounts to approximately 1.1 to 1.3 billion chicks.

Due to various fluctuations in the demand for day-old chicks by broiler growers, this level of production may vary during different periods.

These fluctuations may be caused by factors such as variations in the broiler meat market, the import of hatching eggs, and the country's economic issues.

Severe inflation in food prices and the significant reduction in the purchasing power of a large segment of low-income individuals should also be considered as influential factors in the demand levels.

The production of day-old chicks in Iran is directly dependent on the import of the Ross breed.

The Arien breed produced in Iran does not have sufficient efficiency for economic profitability for producers, and is considered as part of the producers' quota. The basis of production, however, relies on the use of the imported Ross breed.

On the other hand, the producers' dependence on the import of the Ross breed creates a high risk due to this reliance on imports.

The production capacity of broiler meat in Iran exceeds 3 million tons, and due to incomplete absorption in the domestic market, part of it could be exported based on regional demand.

Creating a suitable logistics infrastructure, market research facilities, and legal financial transactions are essential requirements for realizing this export capacity.
