Reasons for the Decline in Chicken and Egg Exports to Iraq

In recent months, there has been a noticeable decline in the export volume of chicken and eggs to Iraq, which has also affected the production market of these products in Iran.
The main reasons for this decline in exports can be examined under the following headings:
1- Outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (bird flu) in Iran,
The outbreak of the HSNB virus in some poultry farms in Tehran province has caused the Iraqi Veterinary Organization to temporarily suspend imports of chicken and eggs from Iran. This restriction was lifted after the disease was brought under control.
2- Seasonal restrictions and increased production in Iraq
Due to the onset of the hot season, the Iraqi government has halted imports of chicken and eggs from Iran. The decrease in consumption during the hot season, along with increased domestic production, has led to a reduced demand for imports from Iran. The rise in production within Iraq has significantly decreased the need for imports. However, with the end of the hot season and the rise in consumer demand, exports are expected to resume soon.
3- Increased competition from other exporting countries

Political and economic decisions, such as the removal of preferential currency rates and the increase in prices of animal feed inputs, have led to higher production costs. Ultimately, these increased costs have raised the final product prices, reducing Iran's competitive advantages compared to other countries.
Consequently, by assessing the impacts of the factors mentioned, if the authorities intend to pay attention to this market, it is necessary to implement appropriate policies to address the challenges ahead.
